With a vision of "Inclusion by widening the horizons of Mental Health to ensure its recognition, importance and acceptance as a necessary component of society" the Manav Health Project has four broad focus areas/mandates Intervention Training Outreach & Awareness Resource Generation
Intervention
The services provided at MANAV Foundation through the mandate of Intervention are:
Rehabilitation Support - Manav Rehabilitation Centre - a psychosocial rehabilitation facility for people recovering from Mental Illness
Counseling For Adults - Manav Counselling Centre - a counseling facility for people with temporarily compromised coping capacities
Caregivers Support - Sahyog - a safe and enabling space for the caregivers to come together as individuals to share and learn from each other
Reintegration Support - Rainbow - built on the philosophy that a group of peers is a highly helpful therapeutic tool for sustaining recovery Vocational Support - Swayam - focusing on equipping individuals recovering from Mental Illness with skills that are important in a workplace environment
Training
The demand for Mental Health & Illness professionals is greatly overshadowed the present supply of quality help
Our field experience has shown us that a multi dimensional approach to Mental Illness is the most effective and there is a necessity for trained and capable professionals equipped with adequate knowledge and an enabling attitude & skill set
In order to fulfill this need, our Training mandate has two focus areas: Training of prospective Mental Health professionals Capacity Building for professionals working in the field The training of prospective Mental Health professionals focuses on the training of students of various disciplines, at varying stages of their education
The capacity building objective focuses on providing training for early detection and basic interventions to employees of other NGO's working with vulnerable populations, as well as building the technical and professional capacity of the foundation’s team members
Outreach & Awareness
Inclusion is a two way street – and our mandate for Awareness and Outreach aims to create a definitive shift from mindless exclusion to mindful inclusion broadening the horizons of Mental Health as they stand today
The goal is to create an atmosphere of understanding and acceptance, the current lack of which contributes to the reluctance in many to seek help when needed
We need to educate society that afflictions of the mind are not imaginary and do not stem from any place other than the brain and its biochemistry and there are means and methods to address this
We aim to do so by means of communication and networking
Communication takes on the task of making people aware of the issue of Mental Health and Illness as well as their role in it. This is achieved by bringing the issue of Mental Health and illness to the forefront of the current social conversation.
The perception that the presence of a Mental Illness is due to the person and/or her/his environment, shapes a prejudiced and discriminatory attitude towards those who are ill
We aim to change this perception by continuing the conversation through print and social media, conferences, and events and of course our team of staff and volunteers
Networking aims to acquire and make use of resources within the various social communities that are relevant to the reintegration of people with Mental Illness to reach out to those who are yet to seek any help
We collaborate with NGO's, community groups, artists to spread the much-needed awareness to the general public as well as publicise the services of the MANAV Foundation
Resource Generation
Resource Generation is an essential mandate for achieving our objectives and reaching our vision
