,Our Caregiver Support programme Sahyog provides a safe and enabling space for caregivers to come together as individuals to share and learn from each other
A caregiver is typically the person who “gives care” to another individual recovering from Mental Illness and/or a severe emotional disorder.
Due to their often overwhelming involvement with the ill person, usually a family member, a caregiver's own emotional, mental & physical health and well-being is ignored, leading to stressful and burdened lives. They go through a lot but have insufficient time and space to talk about themselves, or their own problems, emotional needs and worries
Caregivers play a very important role in the process of rehabilitation and the path to recovery is significantly affected by the environment & relationships shared with family. If a caregiver is mentally and emotionally burdened and unable to cope with her/his own life, it will not only affect them negatively but also their loved one Sahyog provides a platform where caregivers can share the problems they face while providing care. During scheduled monthly meetings, caregivers have a safe space for collective sharing and also jointly explore solutions for their problems
The sharing of similar situations, fulfills the need to be understood and supported through rough times. To have others who understand and care and with whom one can share joys, breakthroughs and triumphs is encouraging and beneficial to personal wellbeing. In addition individual counseling and support is provided on a need basis
It is our experience that this intervention creates more enabling caregivers, contributing positively to recovery
