About Dementia

Dementia is progressive brain dysfunction that leads to a gradual deterioration and loss of communication, interests and activities. Dementia has different forms; Alzheimer’s disease being its most famous manifestation.

Dementia not only affects the elderly, nor does it only affect people in the western world. Living with dementia does not only impacts on the patient, but loved ones and friends.

Partners or relatives, who have taken on the care for a loved one, often are left to struggle. They become isolated and uninformed.

Dementia cannot be cured, but the progress of the disease can be slowed down. Psychotherapy and medications can help.

Dealing with a diagnosis of dementia can be difficult for the patient. In many cases, the patient does not understand the diagnosis, and loved ones are left to cope. Talking to your doctor will help you understand the illness and help you get support.
